What is an Edinburgh mews house?
The residential "New Town" area of Edinburgh was designed by 26 year old architect James Craig and built between 1760 to the 1830. The mews houses were built to the rear of grand townhouses and were used to stable horses. There would be accommodation for the grooms or stable hands on the upper floor as well as room for the storage of hay and grain. These mews properties have evolved over time into characterful and very desirable homes in their own right. To live in a quiet leafy lane close to the centre of town is a very attractive option.
What is self-catering accommodation ?
In self-catering accommodation cooking, cleaning and washing are done by the guest. All our properties have a a well equipped kitchen, dishwasher and washer/dryer. However, for stays of more than one week, we can on request arrange for our housekeeping team to visit and do a general clean of the living space and if required change the bed linen and towels. We make a small charge for this which is payable to the cleaner on the day.
Can we make a group booking ?
If you are planning a visit with a large group of friends or family then our properties are ideal because they are all within easy walking distance of each other and the city's main attractions. If you are planning a wedding, family reunion or anniversary celebration please get in touch and we may be able to offer a discount for booking more than one house at the same time.
Are the houses suitable for business travellers ?
Yes. We have set up the houses with free wi-fi, all-in-one printers and well-lit work space so that you can work comfortably and without disruption.
Do you accept bookings from hen parties and stags dos ?
Yes. Cumberland Mews is very popular with hens and stags as it can sleep up to 9 guests. Dean Street Mews is also suitable if there are only 6 in your party.
What is the booking process ?
You can check availability, get an on-line quote and book your stay on this website. Please refer to our detailed On-Line Booking Terms page for detailed information regarding the payment process, cancellation policy, collection of security deposits and other terms and conditions.
What is the Security Deposit for ?
A refundable security deposit of £100 or £200 will be collected at time of booking via your credit card. The cost of any damage or breakages up to this value may be deducted from the deposit and the remainder is refunded to you. If no damage or breakages happen during the stay the deposit will be refunded in full within 7 days of the end of your stay. If you find something broken or damaged please let us know so we can fix it before the next guests arrive.
What if we need to cancel our stay ?
We realise the unexpected sometimes happens, so please do look at our cancellation policy in our Terms & Conditions when you book.
What is the distance from Edinburgh Airport ?
Edinburgh Airport is 8 miles from the City centre. The journey into town takes approximately 30 minutes by taxi, tram or bus.
What time is Check-in/Check-out ?
Check-in time is normally after 4pm but we may be flexible if we do not have other guests leaving the day you arrive. Check-out time is officially 11am but again we are very flexible about this if there are no other guests arriving the same day.
Please advise your estimated arrival time in advance so we can make arrangements to meet you. It may be possible by prior arrangement to drop off luggage from 11am onwards but the property may not be fully prepared for early entry if we have had guests staying the night before. If you are arriving before 11am and wish to guarantee access to the property on arrival you must add the night before to your booking.
Where do we collect keys ?
We will meet you at the house and show you round if you tell us in advance roughly what time you will be arriving. On arrival day we ask you to text or phone us at least 30 minute prior to arrival to confirm that you are on your way. If for any reason we are unable to get there in time we will advise you how to enter the property using a door code system. You will be given 2 sets of keys for use during your stay.
Can we leave our luggage somewhere ?
If you arrive before the house is ready it may be possible to drop off your luggage early. We will do our best to facilitate this.
Similarly, we can sometimes let you leave your packed luggage in the house after official check-out if we do not have other guests arriving the same day. If you are departing from Waverley station you may want to consider leaving your luggage there to save you having to come back to the house later in the day.
Where can I park my car ?
New Town Mews has a courtyard at the rear in which we have one parking space.
Cumberland Mews has a small integral garage.
We have to two allocated parking spaces in a secure underground car park within easy walking distance of all our houses. These are primarily for the use of guests staying at Circus Mews and Dean Street Mews and must be pre-booked (subject to availability).
There are pay and display parking meters close to all our houses. Operating hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm. Please check the relevant ticket machine to ensure you pay the correct price. Outwith these hours, you may park in these metered spaces or on a single yellow line free of charge.

We have an electronic Welcome Book for each of our properties containing everything you need to know about the property and the surrounding area. It contains sections on Arrival and Departure, Useful Contact Numbers, the Accommodation itself and Facilities in the area, a Restaurant Guide and Guides to Local Activities, Cultural Attractions, Events and Festivals.
